The aim of the Conference is to strengthen the response of the international community to the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip
For Jordan the foreign minister is leaving today, George Gerapetritisin order to participate in the International Conference on Humanitarian Action for Gaza.
The Conference will be held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Conference Center, in the Dead Sea region, at the invitation of King Abdullah II of Jordan, the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and the Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres.
The aim of the Conference is to strengthen the international community’s response to the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip by formulating mechanisms and effective steps to support civilians, through a shared commitment to collective action. There is expected to be a broad discussion on the operational and logistical needs, as well as the required coordination regarding the recovery of the Gaza Strip.
The Conference will be preceded by Working Group meetings, which will address issues related to the operational implications and resources required to maintain aid lines, as well as the creation of conditions conducive to the safe delivery of aid and the protection of civilians. This will be followed by the High Level Meeting to consider political approaches to the future situation, while a statement summarizing the results of the Conference will be released.
The Conference will be attended by heads of state and government, as well as heads of international humanitarian and aid organizations. According to diplomatic sources, the invitation to Greece demonstrates its recognition as an interlocutor of all sides in the Middle East.
It is noted that since the outbreak of the war, Athens has repeatedly highlighted the need to protect the civilian population, as well as to ensure the unhindered flow of aid, in order to meet the food and medical needs of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
