Satisfied with the result of the European elections and optimistic that he will win the next national elections, the president of SYRIZA-PS appeared, Stefanos Kasselakis in an interview he gave to Mega Chanell.

Evaluating the result of the European elections and responding to the observation that “the double score in favor of ND remains” he replied: “We are not in a double score. From 17.8% and 41% after two splits and the big loss in Rodopi and In Xanthi we held on”. In addition, he noted: “It was the first time we had an influx of voters from the ND, we won a dynamic audience of 17 – 35 year olds, we are first among the undecided and most importantly we regained the ability to be first in the popular districts. In several districts we reduced the difference to within breathing distance from the SW”.

In response to a question about whether he considers that he made mistakes during pre-election period he said: “I have made too many mistakes and too many good ones. The most important thing is that we set our agenda and narrowed the gap. 28% of SW he didn’t come alone. I’m proud that we ran a campaign that set the agenda for issues like accuracy and Tempi.”

As for whether the last pre-election week spent in debate over his assets may have alienated some voters, he said: “I promised I would present my whereabouts before the European elections. They attempted character assassination and they failed.” He estimated that “ND ran an expensive campaign and expressed doubts about whether it will be justified”.

He also said: “I believe we will win in the next national elections, the first step has been done in a way that is revelatory, we have narrowed the gap.”

When asked if he would be a candidate in the event of the creation of a new broader body, he replied that “I cannot control what the rest of the progressive world’s intentions are. Since we cannot rely on the intentions and agendas of others, we proceed to make SYRIZA more effective and attractive. In any case, we will give the society an opportunity to speak.

He said, however, that these do not result from top deals behind closed doors, while excluding the New Left saying: “I believe that the New Left should return its seats. We are talking about officials who were his cabinet SYRIZA and brought a bad result”.

He referred to the impending reshuffle, saying: “What Mr. Mitsotakis will do is recycling. But he should punish some ministers who said stupid things before the elections, like Schertsos and Georgiadis.” He estimated that “Kyriakos Mitsotakis will not stand in the next elections” although as he noted “I am not in his mind and I do not have a predator to listen to the thoughts of others”. However, he added “what happened in the European elections is irreversible. In order to succeed in the future, the government will have to make a 180 degree turn in its basic policies. If it does not do this, a large part of society will have been impoverished and we will take over ».

Commenting on the “complaints inside the ND about many people who come from PASOK” he said: “The policy they implement does not resemble PASOK, it is a rigid neoliberal policy, so why are they protesting?”.

Finally, about whether he will attend the conference of the Alexis Tsipras Foundation, he said: “Of course I intend to go if my schedule allows it. It is a very important initiative of Alexis Tsipras.”
