“The position that the ‘wave of precision and the horrific attack on labor rights, with the tolerance and encouragement of the Mitsotakis government, foretells a social explosion,'” he said. Alexis Tsipras in the meeting he had with representatives of the Panhellenic Energy Federation (WTO), the Panhellenic Federation of Metal Workers (POEM), the Federation of Chemical Industry Workers of Greece (OEHBE) and the Federation of Greece (Meto).
The president of SYRIZA – PS underlined his support for their mobilizations because, as he said, “we realize that after 8 years of crisis, 2 years of pandemic we are in a period that is extremely difficult for Greek society, but mainly for workers.” He said industry should be a key pillar of the country’s productive reconstruction.
“Unfortunately it is not,” he commented, adding that “in recent years we have seen a real attack on labor rights.” He added that the “contracting” phenomenon is prevalent at a time when wages remain at a pre-crisis level while commodity and energy prices have risen sharply in recent times.
During the meeting, which took place at the SYRIZA offices in the Parliament, Mr. Tsipras called on the employees through a joint dialogue “to find solutions in order to put a brake on the overall attack accepted by the world of work and to create the conditions for a substantial productive reconstruction through the strengthening of industry, the preservation of jobs, the protection of labor rights “.
For their part, the representatives of the four federations, according to party sources, “stressed with particular emphasis that all their problems stem from the anti-labor law of Hatzidakis.”
Their main and basic issue, said the same sources, were the dismissals which started from the Fertilizers, then in the oils of Kavala and now comes LARCO. In addition, the representatives of the federations noted that “there is a huge issue with the contractors that are directly related to the dismissals”, with the president of the WTO, Panagiotis Kontosiadis, stating that “they dismiss to deactivate”.
