By order of the president of SYTIZA-PS Stefanos Kasselakis, the former director of the party’s KO Thanasis Theocharopoulos is removed from SYRIZA, according to his announcement.

In the statement he issued, he states:

“After my substitute removal from the position of Director of the SYRIZA – PS Committee last September, the day after the election of Stefanos Kasselakis as President of SYRIZA – PS, unfortunately today and again suddenly, a few days after the European elections, I was informed by of the KO by Iota Poulos that the cooperation I had with the KO of SYRIZA – PS ceases to be valid by order of the President Stefanos Kasselakis.

It is pointed out that the new element of this week was the proposal that I have tabled – like many other comrades – on the need to take initiatives from SYRIZA – PS for the cooperation in the progressive space. It is inconceivable that the answer to these concerns, which concern every progressive citizen today, should be this.

Eit is an unprecedented decision for any democratic party.

Tragic irony. A few years ago, some of us took on personal and political costs, supported and voted for the historic Prespa Agreement and, against the dividing lines of the past, formed the Progressive Alliance. I was informed today when I was talking with Zoran Zaev on the sidelines of the first day of the International Conference of the Tsipras and Zaev Institutes about those historic moments of the vote and the need today to observe the Prespa Agreement.”

These developments in the main opposition party come a few days after Mr. Theocharopoulos announced with Yiannis Ragousis his intention to submit a proposal to hold an intra-party referendum at the upcoming meeting of the Central Committee, requesting the substantial participation of SYRIZA PS in the discussion on cooperation of progressive forces.
