From the proposals that have fallen on the table so far and from those who favor the creation of a single center-left party, there is only one safe conclusion: no one knows exactly how this project can proceed. The bosses in any case are not at all easy to overcome. Stefanos Kasselakis feels that with the 14.9% he got he was given the order to restart SYRIZA, while Nikos Androulakis, despite the pressure he receives and the stormy meeting of the Political Council, puts forward the argument that he increased his percentage PASOK and significantly reduced the “scissors” from SYRIZA. After all, this is what he said yesterday when the great majority of executives in Harilaou Trikoupi criticized him. He mentioned that the difference with Koumoundourou was at 24 points and now it is at two.

How exactly will the new party be? Will the two main poles of the center-left proceed to congresses to dissolve their parties? Will there have been prior agreements at the leadership level? Will it become a social demand over time possibly in the middle of the government’s constitutional term? Or is there a chance that the developments will be launched after a “mutiny” of top officials? The equation is “multifactorial” and difficult. Both parties together barely exceeded one million votes and many “bells” rang from the progressive world. Alexis Tsipras from the podium of the Institute’s Conference spoke about the need to form a winning progressive alliance by putting a new agenda on the table.

With the image that has been formed, the dominance of the New Democracy seems to be consolidated. The government lost votes that did not go to the opposition and this greatly troubled both parties. The majority of those disappointed by New Democracy show that they prefer waiting rather than trusting the two forces moving in the center. A group of executives in SYRIZA and PASOK propose their merger as the only solution. At this stage there is simply a discussion and various proposals are put on the table. After the intervention of Alexis Tsipras, SYRIZA and Stefanos Kasselakis will be under more pressure with his return from the USA.

Over time, the “smudge” is certain to fall towards the leadership. If the heads of the parties “put their feet up” they will emerge as the main ones responsible for not regrouping the center-left, but mainly for the absolute dominance of the New Democracy. They will be accused that their “love for the chair” will give a third consecutive victory to a political leader for the first time after the revolution.

Both Stefanos Kasselakis and Nikos Androulakis know this. They each have their own open internal party fronts to deal with. The president of SYRIZA did not get a percentage that can give him a “blank check” until 2027. He will be tested many times along the way and mainly by the poll numbers. Harilaou Trikoupi boss has bigger problems to deal with at the moment with the ‘dolphins’ reportedly ready to put themselves forward for the leadership. Whatever developments there are from now on in both parties are pieces of the puzzle for what will follow in the broader space of the center-left. That is why the movements that are made are particularly careful.
