“From July 1, 30 new executives will be added to DIMEA” – What he said about a possible reduction in VAT on food
In the challenges surrounding the burning issue of accuracy mentioned the new Minister of Development and Investments, Takis Theodorikakosspeaking to and to “Today” with Dimitris Oikonomou and Akis Pavlopoulos.
Initially, Mr. Theodorikakos pointed out that the government cares about the available income and especially for the small and medium-sized families who are struggling to make ends meet. “Our ministry is Development and not Precision, so we are interested in the development of the Greek economy and the growth of household incomes.”
Afterwards, the minister clarified that the solution to the problem of price escalation is for a number of agencies to join forces to find a solution, adding that:
“We will intensify and strengthen the control mechanisms, this has not been done completely. For this reason and from July 1, 30 new staff will be added to DIMEA, while we will focus on 100 basic goods in the service’s price observatory. The measure of announcing price increases will remain in full effect, but the digital control will also be permanent for supply prices. Also, the multinational companies themselves will be controlled even more.”
“We can’t abolish VAT on food – Spain which did it now has higher food inflation than Greece”
At the same time, Takis Theodorikakos sent a message both to the consumer public, underlining that the e-katanalotis platform operates 24 hours a day with 3,000 codes, where every citizen can see every product that interests him, as well as to the representatives of entrepreneurship. “We want businesses to do well. Profit is legitimate, speculation is not legitimate.”
He added that the government will do everything in its power to relieve the average Greek family, while answering a question about the opposition’s pressure on VAT, he repeated:
“Spain tried it. If you take the date it started to date, it has more food inflation than Greece. This happens, because the money that goes to the state coffers and the citizen, now goes back to the profits of the companies”, concluding that “prices do not fall with a law and an article”.
