How will the mayor of Athens Haris Doukas combine the two roles if he is elected president of PASOK
“I will remain mayor” clarified the mayor of Athens Haris Doukas on the show “Mismatches” on SKAI, when he was asked to answer if he will resign if he is elected president of PASOK.
“I have documented the dual role. It is a complementary role, they are communicating vessels even though it has never been implemented in Greece”, stressed Mr. Doukas, explaining that the battles at the municipal level are also of national scope.
“The citizens will benefit from my dual role as I will have a greater opportunity to claim for the efforts I make. There are a number of problems that I claim” and he added “I will prove what I mean by politics by improving the lives of Athenians. It is a bet that will be evaluated every day by the citizens.”
Asked to respond to Androulaki’s accusations with the statement “I received a party from Gennimata – I will not deliver a component”, Mr. Doukas replied: “We will become a component if we do not increase our percentages. I am making an effort to strengthen PASOK and govern the country.”
Commenting on the percentage of his party in A΄Athens (8.76%), the mayor of Athens admitted that it is not satisfactory. In fact, he mentioned that in the first half of 2024 compared to the corresponding last year, there was a 365% increase in the number of people who asked for help from the social grocery store of the municipality of Athens. “It concerns 4,000 new families. These are the problems we need to solve. Economic and social justice is required. Because today the government gives a lot to the few and a little to the many”, he pointed out indicatively.
When asked when he made the decision to claim the presidency of PASOK, Mr. Doukas replied that it happened after the result of the European elections.
When asked how he will exercise opposition in parliament if he is elected president of PASOK, at a time when he is not an elected member of parliament, he underlined that “there are executives and I am advocating participative and collective leadership”.
As for whether he is ready to become prime minister, Haris Doukas replied “I am ready to face the responsibility to change the lives of the citizens”.
