Dimitris Manzos, in his statement on the removal of Fredis Beleris from the Albanian Central Electoral Committee in Tirana, turns against the government and characterizes the event as its own failure.

In particular, the State Member of Parliament and responsible for K.T.E. External PASOK-Movement for Change reported:

“Following the conviction against F. Beleris, the imposition of the subsequent penalty of removal of the elected mayor of Heimarra is the last act of a prescribed drama. It is also the official confirmation of the failure of the Greek Government to prevent this development by highlighting the Beleris case in its true dimensions, as a matter of the rule of law and the protection of minorities of an EU member state under accession.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister, acting as a party leader, chose to take advantage of a serious issue of the country’s international relations to derive minor party benefits in the recent elections, with the result that today the Greeks of Northern Epirus are deprived of the mayor they themselves democratically elected, while also the property their rights remain seriously contested and at risk.

The Beleri case is now archived as a tangible proof that foreign policy cannot be conducted with the aim of creating impressions for domestic consumption, but with seriousness and foresight.
