War in Ukraine: 1,032 Ukrainian citizens arrived in Greece – Meeting at the Ministry of Civil Protection

A meeting on refugee flows from Ukraine to our country as well as on security issues was convened this morning by the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos.

It is noted that in the last five days the border of Greece has been crossed by 1,032 Ukrainian citizens and it is estimated that the flows are increasing, a fact that imposes immediate actions on the issues concerning their reception and settlement.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Eleftherios Oikonomou, Greek Police Chief Lieutenant General Michael Karamalakis, Chief of Foreigners and Border Protection, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios and Diplomatic Adviser Sofia Stamateri.

The implementation of a Community directive on refugees without travel documents with biometric data, the issue of underage refugees and their registration, hospitality infrastructure as well as the implementation of a number of security measures were discussed.

The Minister of Civil Protection Takis Theodorikakos also had a telephone conversation with the Ukrainian Ambassador to Greece Sergii Shutenko, in which he reiterated the full support and solidarity of Greece to the Ukrainian people who are experiencing the violent Russian invasion of his country. The minister stressed that the Greek authorities will do everything necessary to facilitate the Ukrainian refugees and will be in constant cooperation with the Ukrainian embassy.
