The two leaders are in Washington for the NATO Summit – The Prime Minister’s program
The associates of the Greek Prime Minister are on an open line, Kyriakou Mitsotakis and the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to finalize the meeting of the two leaders on Wednesday or Thursday, on the sidelines of the Summit NATO.
According to information, it is most likely that the meeting will take place on Wednesday.
The foreign ministers of the two countries are also in Washington.
The prime minister has been in the American capital since last night to participate in the NATO Summit (July 9-11).
The program begins with the anniversary event for the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Alliance in the afternoon at 17.00 (local time).
At noon at 12:15 (local time) the prime minister has been invited by the think tank “Council on Foreign Relations” for a discussion with former US ambassador to Athens DanieL Speckhard.
On the agenda of the Summit will be the strengthening of the defense capabilities of the Alliance and the greatest contribution from European NATO member states and Canada to the implementation of the commitments for defense investments, the confirmation of the support of Ukraine, as well as the cooperation of NATO with partners (EU and IndoPacific 4 – Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea).
In terms of defense capabilities and commitment to defense spending that will reach at least 2% of GDP, our country is in the hard core of allied countries that exceed this figure. It is also recalled that the prime minister has submitted together with his Polish counterpart a proposal for a European air defense shield that will be financed with European funds and will work in addition to NATO.
On Wednesday night, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be at the White House at the dinner hosted by American President Joe Biden in honor of the leaders.
In Washington, the prime minister will also hold meetings with members of Congress and tomorrow he will hold talks at the NATO Public Forum with former US Deputy National Security Adviser Nadia Schadlow.
After the completion of the work of the NATO Summit, the Prime Minister will go to New York, where on Friday he will have a meeting with the Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres (Antonio Guterres).
The focus of the meeting will be Greece’s assumption of the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (2025-26), as well as the Cyprus issue and the work of the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holgin .
