“It is a day of remembrance for the 104 people we lost that day in Eye 6 years ago,” said the government spokesman, Pavlos Marinakiswho was a guest of 100.3 and to Ari Portosalte on Tuesday morning.

Initially, Mr. Marinakis focused on the actions of the government in the last five years in terms of preventing and dealing with firesmainly the establishment of 112 for the protection of human life.

“This is what is required for a state: to learn lessons from the past and turn these lessons into actions. I think there is a difference from summer to summer, of course we have to keep our heads down, especially when we are addressing people who have lost their property and most probably their relative,” he commented characteristically.

At the same time, the government representative spoke about its tightening criminal code, with the punishments now being heavier even for negligent arson. “Besides, from a point on when you know that there is an extreme risk of fire, it is not so much negligence”, as he underlined, adding that there is now also the imposition of penalties, without these being “virtual” anymore.

“Greece has been a champion in exports and direct foreign investments in recent years”

He also assured that the government will thoroughly examine the issue of intervention in Esfigmenou Monastery on Mount Athos, while he did not fail to talk about economic issues.

“These years when Europe is on the verge of growth, Greece is at 2%-2.5%, i.e. five times the European average. We have been champions in foreign direct investment and exports in recent years. This is something measured. When we talk about 400,000 jobs being created, they didn’t grow. People found jobs, unemployment decreased, taxes fell.”

“The number one thing we will put on the scales is public health – 2 emergency calls a month is not too much”

Asked about the conflict of the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, with private doctorsPavlos Marinakis noted:

“In 14 regions of the country, a series of announcements are being made, but no doctors are coming. For example, there is an advertisement that has appeared 5-6 times in Santorini, with net money over 4,500 euros per month. So the state comes and says let’s all back off and let private doctors do 2 on-calls a month. The goal is not the demand, I think that 2 on-calls a month in order not to close clinics is not something excessive, but the number one thing we will put on the scale is public health”.
