In the following days, 10,000 young people will be launched permanent appointments of teachers with a selection from the ASEP tables. “It’s a big number that satisfies teachers, as well as parents and students,” he said the Deputy Minister of Education, Zetta Makri.

“These new appointments are added to the nearly 30,000 appointments made by the Mitsotakis government since the beginning of the previous four-year period. We firmly believe that there should be a proper and stable relationship between students and teachers and that the number of substitutes, who cover emergency needs, should be slowly reduced,” added Mrs. Makri.

Regarding their distribution in the education levels, the deputy minister pointed out that there will be four times more than last year’s appointments in primary education, five times more in special education, eight times more in auxiliary and special education staff, with 5,000 belonging to secondary education. At the same time, as he said, “when the bell rings, the appointments will be completed, without any shortage of teaching staff”.

“Government’s intention to expand full-day schools – In education nothing is solved directly”

With reference to all-day schoolinformed that the government’s intention is to expand it, recalling that 3,000 substitutes have already been hired to staff these schools.

When asked about changes in the education system in the new year, he emphasized that in education nothing is solved directly, also referring to the low performance of Greek students in the PISA exams. “We have 166 new curricula, which are integrated into model and experimental schools”, while immediately after he made a special mention of the “multiple book”, which is coming in the new school year.

“It is about the possibility of choosing from 3 books. They will be available digitally from 2025 and in the next school year they will also be available on paper. The multi-book will be self-searchable for students, so you can see how much it will prevent kids from reading, allowing for meaningful learning.”
