Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis comments on the results of ELSTAT and the drop in unemployment to 9.6% last June in his post.

As the Prime Minister points out, this is the lowest level since the corresponding month of 2009, however, he emphasizes that “we are not resting”.

The Prime Minister’s post in detail

“Last day of July today and I would like to close the month with a very positive news. According to ELSTAT, unemployment in our country fell to 9.6% in June, from 10.3% in May. This is the lowest level since the corresponding month of 2009!

Compared to June 2019, the drop in unemployment amounts to 8 percentage points, 9.6% from 17.5%. And at the same time we have an increase in employment by 400,000.
I also want to list some more specific facts which I believe have their own significance. Women’s unemployment has dropped by 2.2 points compared to June 2023, while youth unemployment has dropped by 2 points. Evidence showing that our targeted policies are having positive results.

Of course we don’t rest. We know the problems that citizens face. We know we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Our goal is convergence with Europe at all levels: wages, unemployment, quality of life. And we will continue to serve this goal.”
