The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou had a telephone conversation with the Ambassador of Ukraine Sergii Shutenko. The Ambassador informed the President about the developments on the war front, referred to the ordeal of the Greeks of Mariupol and the evacuation operation of the Greek Consulate General and thanked her for the full and unequivocal support of Greece in its tested country.
Mrs. Sakellaropoulou expressed the full support of the Greek people in Ukraine and her heroic struggle for its freedom, its European course and its democratic and ecumenical values. The resistance of the Ukrainians deeply moves the Greeks and unites humanity against the Russian attack and the violent questioning of the sovereignty of an independent state.
Finally, the Ambassador of Ukraine requested the assistance of the State for the hosting of Ukrainian refugees who have already begun to arrive in Greece. The President of the Republic contacted the President of the Hotel Chamber of Greece, Alexandros Vasilikos, and informed him about it. Mr. Vasilikos responded positively and told Ms. Sakellaropoulou that care is already being taken in this direction.
