As Vassilis Kikilias reminds, the new criminal code provides prison terms of up to 10 years for negligent arson
The guilty will pay about the consequences of their criminal actions, warns the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias after the new arrests for arson.
“Today, a 66-year-old man was brought before the investigator who was arrested by the DAEE for arson with intent in the 4 dangerous fires that our firefighters faced in Vari on June 8 and 9. He was given a deadline to apologize on Thursday and is now being held in GADA. Also, today the Prosecutor decided to detain a 33-year-old man, who was arrested by the DAEE for arson that caused 3 fires in Magoula Elefsinas on July 31 and August 1. Yesterday, three more men were arrested who are accused of causing the fire in Koromilia Domokou while performing hot work. Strong ground forces, 7 aircraft and 1 helicopter fought hard to save the threatened settlement, as the fire broke out next to houses,” he notes.
As Vassilis Kikilias reminds, the new criminal code provides for prison sentences up to 10 years for negligent arson– as the offense has now been converted into a felony- and up to 20 years for arson.
We will not stop investigating in depth one by one all the fires, so that the culprits are brought to justice and pay the consequences of their criminal actions, says the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
