On his TV the Minister of Rural Development and Food spoke, Kostas Tsiaraswho referred to both her burning issue water shortage in the countryside, as well as in plague of sheep and goats.

“Drought threatens agricultural production, the reality is that climate change has magnified the problem,” Mr. Tsiaras initially pointed out, adding that “the bad weather Daniel was the big reason in Thessaly, in order to create a water resource management mechanism ».

At the same time, he admitted that the water issue is a major problem, but one should look at it in the medium to long term, about 5-6 years. “It is utopia to talk about completing projects in just 1 year. We know that the water table is very low, we also have frequent floods due to climate change, the Thessaly Water Management Organization is being created, while 12 days ago I announced the composition of a corresponding mechanism in Crete as well”.

“The State will stand by the breeders whose animals were killed”

Regarding the plague, the minister emphasized:

“Through tracking, we managed to locate many cases in different parts of Greece. It is important for the world to know that we found most of the cases, as well as that from the first moment we implemented the European protocol based on Directive 687 of 2020 which provides for specific measures, such as a ban on traffic and the movement of animals for the 2nd consecutive week. 18,000 animals were killed in the country due to the plague. If you compare what is being done in Romania, where up to 230,000 animals have been killed so far, you will see that we reacted quickly. And be sure that the State will stand by the farmers whose animals were killed”
