Extreme fire risk for tomorrow, 11/8, in the Regions of Attica, Central Greece, Peloponnese and Crete
“From tomorrow, Sunday, until the fifteenth of August, extremely high and dangerous weather conditions will prevail for the occurrence of forest fires. We will have a combination of very strong winds of 6, 7 and with gusts of 8 Beaufort. No rain and drought, and for this reason, half of Greece will be in the “red”, as can be seen on the map”, says the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection in his statement Vassilis Kikilias, on the occasion of its meeting scientific Risk Assessment Committee to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for the weather conditions that will prevail next week and the meeting with the participation of all involved bodies.
As he points out, “I have requested the implementation of emergency measures, concerning the Army, the Police, the volunteers, the Fire Department and the Local Government”, and he called on the citizens “to be alert and show great responsibility”, because, as he pointed out, “we’re going to have a very difficult week.”

According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map, issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for tomorrow, Sunday, August 11, it is predicted:
Extreme fire risk – State of alarm (risk category 5) for the following areas:
– Region of Attica (except the island of Kythira)
– Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)
– Peloponnese region (Argolida PE, Corinthia PE)
– Region of Crete
Very high fire risk (risk category 4) for the following areas:
– Region of Attica (Kytheron island)
– Region of Peloponnese
– Region of Western Greece (P.E. Achaia)
– Region of Central Greece (PE of Fokidas, PE of Boeotia, PE of Fthiotida, PE of Evia including the island of Skyros)
– Region of Thessaly (SPorades)
– North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
– South Aegean Region (Cyclades, Karpathos)
– Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Rhodopi PE, Evros PE including the island of Samothraki)
OR General Secretariat of Civil Protection has informed the competent government agencies involved in the service, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to immediately deal with any fire incidents.
At the same time, it recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machines that cause sparks, such as circular saws, welding devices, the use outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. Also, it is recalled that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited. In the event of a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the number 199.
