The president of SYRIZA was at the Cultural and Sports Center of Nea Makri
The dismissal of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikiliadue to the catastrophic development of the fire in Attica, the president of SYRIZA-PS requested today.
THE Stefanos Kasselakis was at the Cultural and Sports Center of Nea Makris, in an action of “Solidarity from below – Solidarity Everywhere” for the support of those affected by the great fire in NE Attica, while then he went to Patima Chalandriou, the craft industry where a worker lost her life , when he was trapped inside by the fire.
As noted in a related announcement, in Nea Makri, Stefanos Kasselakis was informed by the Mayor of Marathon, Stergios Tsirkas, about the enormous efforts of volunteers and residents to save homes and properties. “The spontaneous statement of a resident, that ‘only we were saved’, highlighted the extent of the frustration of these people with the results of government planning, which was supposed to have taken into account the real and particular conditions prevailing in the area and took special preventive measures for the fire event”, the announcement states, while also conveying a statement from another resident, who said with “indignation” to the president of SYRIZA – that we are an “unfortified country”.
Also, according to the announcement, the mayor pointed out that “the volunteers carried out their work because they defied the message through 112 to move away from the area, while adding that in practice few accept it”, while at the same time, he informed the president of SYRIZA- PS that “he also asked for more air support on Monday, as he did not see any planes, but he was told that there are problems in other areas as well”.
Speaking to the affected, Stefanos Kasselakis expressed the support of SYRIZA and assured them that he will be by their side in order for the State to fulfill its aid obligations within a reasonable time.
“It is the craft in which a working woman was lostin a suburb of Athens, in the urban fabric of Athens”, emphasized St. Kasselakis from Patima Chalandriou, outside the craft factory where the worker lost her life.
“Political responsibility is determined by the results of political actions and political choices. Crossing a fire 40 kilometers in the already half-burnt Attica and literally entering Athens, is something that suits Kabul and not a European country. Not in a European capital, not in Athens,” said the president of SYRIZA-PS, stressing that “there must be an immediate dismissal of Mr. Kikilia by the prime minister.” “It’s the least that can be done at the moment. It goes without saying. For all the rest, the accountability that must exist from the entire government and primarily from the prime minister, I will mention in the coming days”, he noted and concluded:
“For two days we stood next to the volunteers and the heroes of the front line. We will always be by their side. Now is the time of responsibility and in our country, in our capital, what you see cannot be done after so much sweat, so much wealth, so much “blood” that has been shed by the Greek people”.
