Today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a teleconference with the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and the group involved in the work of the Greece-Egypt electricity interconnection.

The teleconference – attended by Luxembourg and European Investment Bank President Werner Hoyer – took place following a meeting between Mr Mitsotakis and Mr Al Sisi on the sidelines of the European Union-African Union Summit in Brussels. February 17, with the main topic of discussion being the implementation of the Greece-Egypt electricity interconnection project, which is a strategic priority for both countries.

The Prime Minister stressed that the electricity interconnection between Greece and Egypt – based on the Memorandum of Interconnection of Greek and Egyptian Electricity Networks signed on October 14, 2021 – will contribute to the diversification of energy sources and roads in Europe and therefore to Europe’s energy security. , an issue that is becoming more topical than ever due to the new landscape created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
