The need for immediate ecological and economic restoration of the area was pointed out by the president of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group, Nikos Pappaswho visited Volos on the occasion of the “huge environmental and health issue that has arisen with the dead fish in Pagasitikos”.

During his presence, Mr. Pappas, who was accompanied by the MP for Magnesia Alexander Meikopouloswas informed by the competent deputy governors, Anna Maria Papadimitriou and Fotis Lambrinidis, about the situation that has arisen and performed an autopsy on the spot where the protective net has been installed by the Volos Port Organization, in order to contain the millions of dead fish that have ended up in the Dryland through her game dam Karlas.

In his statement he said: “The phenomenon is heartbreaking, the smell is very strong. We must realize that the issue of the climate crisis is primarily a public health issue and seriously discuss, in addition to the immediate ecological and economic restoration of the region, medium-term solutions. We do not have the political and moral luxury, we do not have the survival luxury to simply wait for the phenomenon to repeat itself. The responsibilities will be enormous if inaction prevails after this disaster.”

He called on the state to look positively at the Region’s proposal in order to stop the Icy to be the receiving basin for the sewage of the whole of Thessaly and concluded: “This must be the medium-term objective and there they will find in SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance a force of urgent opposition”.

The visit of Mr. Pappas also had the character of preparing the tour of the president of the party, Stefanos Kasselakis, in the region, next Monday.
