The trial for the tragedy of Tempe is expected to begin within the autumn, as the Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis emphasized in the show “Live you” on SKAI.

When asked about this, he noted that the interrogation in the case was “exemplary” while the reason for the delay in the start of the trial explained that this is due to the fact that the lawyers are submitting requests for further investigation. “The investigator has an order from the prosecution of the Supreme Court, when a request is submitted, not to leave it unanswered,” he noted.

Regarding the room in which the trial will be held, the Minister of Justice said that the space has been found, despite the fact that according to the initial information, 120 advocates were expected, which were later increased to 250.

For arson

The Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis also mentioned the strict framework that provides imprisonment even for negligent arson.

When asked why arson is not decreasing while stricter measures are in place, the minister said that the number of arrests shows the effectiveness of the police. “Some have already been remanded in custody”, stressing that if the arson is proven with intent, the sentence provided for is imprisonment is more than 10 years.

“The prescribed penalties for negligence are also prison,” he said indicatively.
