For an apology again on Thursday, it was decided to call Christos Spritzis by the Ethics Committee, which met today regarding whether his deletion from SYRIZA-PS will proceed.

In particular, because the recommendation of the Ethics Committee to the Central Committee, as it emerged from the meeting that ended late on Tuesday night, will foresee a heavy penalty (suspension of party status or deletion), it was decided to call Christos Spirtzis again for an apology on Thursday.

It is recalled that the referral of Christos Spirtzis to the Ethics Committee with the question of his deletion from SYRIZA – PS, is requested by 70 members of the party, from the president Stefanos Kasselakis.

The members accuse Spirtzis of vicarious and anti-party behavior, they argue that he operates with an individual agenda “openly questioning both the work of the newly elected President and the possibility of SYRIZA to deliver the dominant pole that will challenge the dominance of K. Mitsotakis”.

With a letter sent to the Ethics Committee of SYRIZA, the former minister, Christos Spirtzis, denounces the leadership for tactics, stressing that “my removal is for the President and the leadership of SYRIZA-PS a predetermined decision”.

In particular, in his letter to the Ethics Committee that met on his subject on Tuesday, September 3, Mr. Spirtzis states that “with the chosen tactic of the President and his supporters, the wording by the Stefanos Kasselaki’s positions of foreigners with the principles and positions of our party, but also the creation of issues that constantly cause introversion and a toxic climate inside SYRIZA-PS, serve only the ND”.

“Comrade H. Spirtzis,

On July 11, 2024, the Ethics Committee of SYRIZA-PS sent you a complaint against you by 70 party members and executives, which included fourteen of your taped interventions over a period of 17 days in various media and asked you for your explanations within a reasonable period of time, oral or written. The constant and exclusive goal of the ED is to investigate compliance with the statute and to safeguard the prestige of the party from the behaviors and practices of those who are members of SYRIZA. In this context, the ED handled the case with absolute respect for an executive of the K.E. member party. On the contrary, instead of responding by respecting the institution and the process, you displayed behavior inappropriate for an executive, in the context of which you made new public positions attacking the party and the institution, a fact that obliged the ED to impose the penalty of reprimand on you on 6/ 8/2024.
At the same time, he gave you a new deadline, which he extended until September 3rd, a total of 54 days after the start of the process.

However, instead of the expected explanations, you chose again, in a letter you sent to ED, to make attacks and baseless accusations against her.

This letter was at the same time given to the media, breaching all notions of confidentiality as defined by the statute and code of conduct and causing the well-known noise and commentary, in which you were quick to lead, against the party ahead of the crucial EC meeting.

Following the above, the ED at the meeting of September 3, 2024 decided the following:

1. Your entire behavior and practice, contrary to the respect and institutional practice of the ED, constitutes instrumentalization of the process to appear in the media and continue the attacks against the party.

Your letter is returned as unacceptable.

And of course, both your baseless, unsupported and insulting to the body itself and to the members that make up your accusations and accusations of alleged pressures and preconceived decisions, as well as your suggestions regarding the functioning of the ED and the handling of competence cases are rejected her.

2. In the context of unity and camaraderie, exhausting every opportunity, invites you for the third and last time to respect the institution of the E.D. and to come to a meeting with the three-member committee, on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. offices of the Ethics Committee in order to give your explanations.

We want and believe that this time you will respond to the invitation of the Ethics Committee. Your responsibility belongs to the whole. In any case, the Ethics Committee will make its final decision after considering all the facts.”
