“Explosive” is the scene that is taking shape inside SYRIZA after the sweeping changes proposed by the party’s president Stefanos Kasselakis.

Just 24 hours before the crucial meeting of the KE, St. Kasselakis proposed a new name and statute, which caused strong reactions in the already burdened climate.

It is recalled that the president of the party proposed the renaming of SYRIZA to “Coalition of the Modern Left“, deleting the terms “Radical” and “Progressive Alliance”.

At the same time, he proposes a series of changes in the operation and structures of the party, such as for example that MPs have the possibility of three elected terms with a change of electoral district if someone wants to claim an additional term.

Different opinions and approaches regarding the positions have already been recorded, mainly for the name proposed by Mr. Kasselakis from various sides, mainly from the side of “87”, who talk about a party with a personality.

The Spirtzi case is also a difficult equation for the party, as it is a casus belli for the “87” if the issue of its deletion is raised.

The changes he proposes include:

  • MPs will not participate in party bodies.
  • Limit 3 consecutive terms in the same constituency.
  • Members will decide on top issues (party line, ballots).
