SYRIZA is headed for new internal party elections, just one year later, after the decision of the Central Committee to declare Stefanos Kasselakis “dismissed”. The proposal to the secret ballot in the Central Committee passed with 163 “yes”, 120 voted against while 2 blanks and 1 invalid were found.

After the rift… syrriza, the goal is to, as soon as possible, reorganize the official opposition, which is declining according to the polls, losing its support in society. However, the division in the party remains the next day as well, as the voting in the KE shows.

The first scenarios for who the contenders will be have begun. In addition to Pavlos Polakis who has declared that he will be a candidate, a candidate will probably also be Nikos Farandouriswhich has left the possibility open. “In the event that there are elections for president in SYRIZA, I am thinking very seriously about being a candidate,” he stressed.

A “window” for candidacy is also allegedly left by Socrates Famous. Asked if he will be a candidate, Mr. Famellos said that “the public, the collective” decided today and declared “soldier”.

Nikos Pappas takes over the representation of SYRIZA in 88th TEF.

“SYRIZA is a party with deep roots in society. A statute which is our Constitution. We are sure that the rest of the procedures will be carried out with absolute smoothness. I open the process. The EC decided almost unanimously to reconvene in two weeks from now. We are sending a message of calm, a message of democratic dialogue to the entire progressive world. In the world that was hurt by the latest developments,” Mr. Pappas emphasized.

Asked if he will be a candidate, he answered yes such a conversation will not be opened now. “I will represent the party in TIF” he said.

However, it is noted that the “dismissed” Stefanos Kasselakis has not “opened his papers” if he will be a candidate aiming to return to leadership with rechristened popular legitimacy, or even if he will launch a new political initiative.

The procedures

With regard to the procedures for convening the conference, h Political Secretariat will meet immediately, possibly on Monday or Tuesday regarding the methodology of the conference. The Central Committee, within the next 15 days, will meet to take all the relevant decisions, based on the statute, including the time of the extraordinary congress, where the nominations for the presidency of the party will be officially announced.

“I am redeemed”

After the result Stefanos Kasselakis spoke to the Central Committee. Specifically, he said: “I am redeemed because all the citizens saw the censure I have been living with since the first day I was elected president.

It is unprecedented in the political history of the country that the party bureaucracy does not accept the vote of the party members from the very first day.

So I spent a whole year. Now you know everything. We have reached the point where the bureaucracy, the nomenclature of the party and the various factions employ practices that do not belong to the Left, even managing to humiliate the honorable members of the committee by wearing them hoods” and concluded: “My decisions will be announced where I am accountable and I will always be accountable, in the world of SYRIZA.”

“My decisions will be announced – I will always belong to the world of SYRIZA”

Stefanos Kasselakis pointed out the fact that he will announce his decisions on the sidelines of the vote of censure by his faction, immediately after the announcement of the results.

He emphasized that he will always belong to the world of SYRIZA, while he declared that he was redeemed because all the citizens saw the censure he has suffered since the first day he was elected president.

“It is unprecedented that the party bureaucracy does not accept the vote of the party members. That’s how I spent a whole year,” he said.

In fact, leaving the meeting, he spoke of humiliating the Central Committee “by wearing a hood”

The process continues with all members of the KE in the room.

“If Mr. Kasselakis wants, of course he can be a candidate for SYRIZA”

Pavlos Polakis spoke about the “painful process” which, however, initiates the procedures for the election of the new leader in SYRIZA.

“I declared my availability for the next day and expressed an overall programmatic framework that can form the core of a political proposal the following day with the aim of overthrowing the neoliberal government of Mitsotakis in a short period of time”, said Mr. Polakis leaving the meeting of the Central Commission.

At the same time, he invited the members and friends to “contribute” so that the procedures can proceed “coordinated” and “unifying”, “without extreme expressions”.

“The left knows how to talk”, he underlined and pledged that whatever the result, he will remain in SYRIZA and support his perspective, while when asked about whether Mr. Kasselakis will be a candidate, he said: “if he wants to, of course , why not”.

It is noted that Pavlos Polakis has publicly expressed his intention to be a candidate for leadership. Also, in his statements, Nikolas Farandouris has left open the possibility of running for office.
