The removal of the parliamentary immunity of the SYRIZA member of parliament, Elena Akrita, was unanimously decided by the Plenary of the Parliament with 264 votes, after a lawsuit for defamation filed against her by the wife of the prime minister, Mareva Grabowski.

The case concerns a lawsuit for defamation based on a post made by the MP, leaving spikes about the Pothen Esches of the Prime Minister’s wife.

In her deposition, Ms. Akrita requested the lifting of her immunity, which she had done at the Parliamentary Ethics Committee in July, in order to fight the legal battle. “If she is a private person, the announcement of the lawsuit should have been made by her lawyer. But it was done by the prime minister’s office”, he said characteristically.

“As politicians we can clash without involving families and the prime minister’s wife has the right to take legal action. Mrs. Akrita will be judged by the natural judge”, replied the ND parliamentary representative, Thanos Plevris.
