“We want the electrical interconnection with Cyprus to proceed – The claims that it is not completed because we are afraid of Turkey are completely unfounded”
To and to “Mismatched» was a guest on Wednesday morning the deputy minister in addition to the prime minister and a government representative, Pavlos Marinakis.
“These numbers that are written and this risk theory that some are deliberately trying to spread about immigration have nothing to do with reality. And when you represent a government that has been in business for over 5 years, you can have some numbers that create a credibility. How many resident immigrants did Greece have to manage in 2019? 92,000. With a policy that we implemented, this number today is 21,000 and this did not happen by chance”, Mr. Marinakis initially pointed out regarding the burning issue of immigration.
At the same time, he added that the government has a different immigration policy, assuring that the “riskiness surrounding immigration has nothing to do with reality”, informing that asylum applications have been decided in just three months, while he clarified:
“We are not going to accept 30,000 Afghans from Germany, and there is no such thing. These numbers written are not realistic. We must explain that there are two categories, those with asylum and those without asylum. The former can be moved by law for 90 days, while the latter are illegal immigrants who can return to the country of entry and then undergo the process of permanent return. Don’t forget that since last April there is also the Pact on Migration and Asylum, which is also a Greek success. Therefore, immigration may be considered a “hot potato” for Europe, but in Greece things are completely different. Let me remind you that until 2019 there were Morias and Idomenes, where favelas operated.”
“We want the electricity interconnection with Cyprus to progress – The target for an average salary of €1,500 is more than realistic”
As for her subject Cassow and her electrical interconnection with Cyprusthe government representative reiterated that our country has a clear intention to move forward. “The issue is not geopolitical, but economic. That is to say, to proceed with the project as long as the financial sustainability is respected with a fair sharing of the costs. Claims that we are allegedly retreating out of fear towards Turkey have nothing to do with reality.”
Commenting on her topic accuracyMr. Marinakis noted:
“There are some indicators of a gradual de-escalation of prices, mainly in the supermarket. The big goal for this four-year period is for the positive news of the Greek economy to translate into positive news for citizens’ pockets as well. There are two ways to increase income. One is to give money that doesn’t exist to make yourself temporarily happy, the other is to grow the pie by bringing in big investments, by creating 5000,000 jobs, by reducing youth unemployment from 36% to 22% so that the state returns what the citizens were deprived of. The target for an average salary of 1,500 euros is more than realistic.”
Finally, he stated that approximately 20,000 citizens are going to find roof with the new “Spiti My 2” program, pointing out that the number one problem for the productive ages remains the issue of rents, while he said that there are now significant tax incentives for converting properties from short-term to long-term leases, to open the closed houses for the tackling high rents, through “Renovate”. “Housing is the biggest financial problem in the whole of Europe”, as he characteristically stated.
