Voting for the first round of PASOK’s internal party elections is underway, with the main feature being increased participation.

According to Harilaou Trikoupi, by 18:30 in the afternoon, 275,375 voters had come to the polls, while 150,000 new members were counted among them.

Due to the large turnout, and while the polls were to close at 7 p.m., a one-hour extension was granted shortly before by a decision of EDEKAP.

The process

Party members have the right to vote, and in addition, those over 16 who wish to do so by declaring, at whichever polling station they go, that they want to register either as members or as friends and to sign a responsible declaration that they are not members of another party.

All voters pay the amount of 3 euros.

The ballot is common with the candidates in alphabetical order: Nikos Androulakis, Pavlos Geroulanos, Nadia Giannakopoulou, Anna Diamantopoulou, Haris Doukas and Michalis Katrinis and a cross of preference is inserted.

In order to elect a new president, he needs to gather 50+1 of the votes, and if he does not succeed, then the first two will face off in the second round next Sunday, October 13.

The results are expected after 9 pm.
