“What the soldier did was unthinkable, the army must obey certain rules,” said the opposition MP
His punishment soldier who spoke at the anti-war rally of the KKE in Athens, his deputy asked SYRIZA, Petros Pappasprovoking the strong reaction of Koumoundourou.
“The statements of SYRIZA-PS MP P. Pappas regarding the soldier who participated in an anti-war event do not in any way represent SYRIZA-PS”, the announcement states and adds:
“In our country, the draftees are not deprived of their political rights during their term of office. The participation of soldiers in marches, with the leading example of the Polytechnic, has been an act of enormous moral, political and historical symbolism for decades. SYRIZA-PS, and the Left as a whole, has always been at the forefront of the movement for the rights of soldiers”.
It was preceded by the placement of Petros Pappas in a show on One Channel.
The SYRIZA MP described what the soldier did as “unthinkable”, stressing that “the army must obey certain rules”, while expressing the hope that there will be “disciplinary punishment”.
P. Pappa’s position:
“These are dangerous things. Every person has the right to have his opinion, his conviction, to participate in the marches of the party he may belong to, but beyond that the army has specific rules. It is not understood that a man who serves his term, in uniform, participates in such a thing, speaking on behalf of the army. I think these things might divert the whole situation. The military must obey certain rules. Dot. It is not something that can be negotiated. In the army there is hierarchy, the army ensures the integrity of our country. It is not understood that there should be this kind of politicization in a man who is serving his term. It’s unthinkable. I imagine that there will be the corresponding disciplinary penalty,” said Petros Pappas.
