The work and life of Vassilis Vassilikos was mentioned by the former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, in a statement he made at the ESIEA Educational Foundation event: “A year without Vassilis Vassilikos – His life and his imprint”.

In his statement, Mr. Tsipras said: “Vassilis Vassilikos managed through his work to turn the drama, anxieties and struggles of the Greek people into a cause for all the peoples of the world.

His work and his life are inextricably linked. From “The Leaf and the Well”, as “Z” and from his exile during the Junta period to the great struggles of our people during the Postcolonial period, and until recently, Vassilis Vassilikos showed an attitude towards the world, an attitude to life, which has inspired younger generations, including mine, in their agonizing quests for a better world with more light.

I want to keep a phrase of his, which comes to my mind very often, especially in the last years, the last leap years, when we often seem to march without a compass: “No stride is lost as long as we keep marching.” I believe that the best tribute to Vassilis Vassilikos, this great emblematic writer as well as man, is exactly this: Despite the difficulties, let’s keep marching.”
