The Central Committee of SYRIZA-PS is meeting today, Saturday, in an extremely polarized atmosphere, scheduled for 12:30 noon.

The executives of “87” decided to hold the Central Committee as normal and from their speeches it became clear that they are preparing a vote to exclude the candidacy of Kasselakis for the leadership of the party. However, he declared that he remains president and in a last ditch effort to reverse the negative climate for him announced, through his post, that he is withdrawing the extra-judicial appeal to the party’s organs to publicize his whereabouts in order, as he says, “to have no alibi”, addressing those who he believes are trying to exclude him from the party’s internal elections.

Specifically, the former president explained that the publication of the whereabouts of the other candidates, as well as the condemnation of the leak by the Political Secretariat on October 8, justified his positions. Therefore, he stated that he will not pursue further legal action.

However, this move by Stefanos Kasselakis does not seem to have worked as executives who are asking for the exclusion are wondering if by withdrawing the extra-judicial he also withdraws his signature on it as President of SYRIZA.

Firefight at the Political Secretariat

Yesterday, the president of SYRIZA received a volley of fire at the meeting of the Political Secretariat ahead of today’s crucial meeting of the Central Committee.

“Kasselakis did not take back the court case. He still says he’s president. So, there is no respect for party decisions. Yesterday he spoke about a change of state. The reason for excluding the party from national elections is the lack of respect for the state,” said Olga Gerovasili in the shadow of the interview of Mr. Kasselakis.

“Kasselakis’ action is a disruptive move, not the party’s reaction to it,” he noted.

“The reaction with the convening of the KE is the minimum gesture of dignity,” said the SYRIZA executive,” added Mrs. Gerovasili.

“The extrajudicial trial is so far the highest act of criminalization of the party, following others that have recently preceded it,” he told the PG Yannis Ragousis.

“The goal of the criminalization of the party by Stefanos Kasselakis and his ilk is the end of SYRIZA-PS as the official opposition,” he said.

“Kasselakis not only did not take back the extrajudicial order, but by declaring that he was satisfied after it and that’s why he is not continuing it, he essentially said that he did well and sent it away, therefore he effectively criminalized the party function”.

“The artificial attempt to cancel the quorum at tomorrow’s meeting of the Central Committee constitutes an unfair and unprecedented undermining of the functioning of the organs, i.e. the democratic functioning of the party. As such, it must be dealt with today by the PG” noted Mr. Ragousis.

About the crucial meeting of the KE, as well as about a possible review of the deletion of Stefanos Kasselakis from the “87” team, Sokratis Famellos spoke to SKAI and “Atairiastos” on Friday morning.

Stefanos Kasselakis, immediately after the meeting of the Political Secretariat, published the long post, responding to accusations leveled against him by members of the Secretariat where the announcement and the withdrawal of the extrajudicial. However, for many, this move seems to be an attempt to cancel the crucial issue of tomorrow’s meeting, something that however failed since it was decided to hold the Central Committee normally today.

According to the information of the representative of the party, Pausanias Papageorgiou, the text of the decision of the Political Secretariat will repeat the road map that has been decided for the Congress, the election of the delegates and the election of the leader. Also, the Political Secretariat underlines “the necessity of institutional positions to achieve the smoothness and unity of the party”.
