The presence of Michalis Khourdakis at the Conference of Speakers of the Parliament as a representative of the independent MPs lasted less than a week.
Although originally the one coming from Freedom Sailing secured an absolute majority (8 signatures out of a total of 14 independents), the withdrawal of Athens Linos from the group of “8” and the protest letters of Sarakis and Katsivardas changed the situation.
The 14 independents will today receive a letter from the presidium of the Parliament in order to try again to nominate their representative, with the President of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoula, giving them a deadline until the beginning of next week.
According to parliamentary sources, if there are two persons who collect 7 positive votes eachthen the representative will choose after drawing lots.
However, if one of the candidates receives more votes than the rest – regardless of their number (whether it is 2 or 8) – then a representative will be appointed automatically.
It is recalled that they had initially supported Mr. Khourdakis the group of 4 coming from the Spartans (Dimitrokallis, Flokos, Manouso, Valtogiannis), Mrs. Papaioannou (also coming from Pleussi Eleftherias) and Salmas (ND), Linou (SYRIZA). The privileges acquired by each representative relate to the right to attend and vote at the Conference of the Presidents of the Parliament.
