Message for Cypriot the former prime minister sent Antonis Samaras from the Cyprusat an event she participated in for the “Woman of the Year” award.

Specifically, the former prime minister mentioned in his speech that “Greece, as Motherland and as a guarantor power, has responsibilities. So the least I can do, neither as a former Prime Minister, nor as a politician, but as a simple Greek, is to tell you here, today, that I am on your side. With you. Far from new taunts against Cyprus or unjust and destructive “solutions”, such as those that are heard to be “cooked” – in parallel with the Aegean now also solutions of covert division. Which will be the next step of complete Turkification”.

At the same time, he underlined that “‘calm waters’, when they lead to silent acceptance of what has been accomplished, always bring huge storms.” About the talks in New York, only a few hours ago, I have nothing to say. It would be irresponsible. But the solution must be one: fair and sustainable! If it is not fair it will not be sustainable. If something different is signed, it will just be the fuse for the next crisis. And if we accept that something like this is signed, the Erinyes will hunt us all.”

Also, Mr. Samaras emphasized that “we want the Republic of Cyprus to be indivisible and united. Without the presence of Attila! With all the refugees in their homes! Besides, the single state of the Republic of Cyprus joined the European Union in its entirety. With the suspension of the “European acquis” in its northern part, due to occupation. As European Protocol 10 expressly provides. So our goal cannot be to legitimize the dichotomous achievements of the invasion. As with the Annan plan, legitimizing the achievements of the invasion, through the back door, is not a solution. It is complete submission. And submission is the ultimate limit of renouncing politics and, above all, national dignity.”

“So no more utopias and taunts against Hellenism. It is a matter of Consciousness. But it is, now, also a matter of survival. By saving our Cyprus, we save our Greece”, concluded the former prime minister.

The entire speech of Antonis Samaras:

This year marks 50 years of our occupation of Cyprus.
I feel a bit uncomfortable standing in front of you…
Especially today, when we honor the Cypriot woman,
who gave her children, her husband, her brother, her father
and what he had and didn’t have about this place.

What should we say to these mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, who are still living the drama of the missing, when they remain unjust?
So this is why I feel uncomfortable: Because, their sacrifices and their anxieties and their expectations remain unjustified!
Because Cyprus is unfair.
Why wasn’t he released? Still…

Greece, as the Motherland and as a guarantor power, has responsibilities.
So the least I can do,
neither as a former Prime Minister, nor as a politician,
but as a simple Greek, I have to tell you here, today
that I’m by your side With you.
Far from new taunts against Cyprus
or unfair and destructive “solutions” like these
which sounds like they are “cooking” – in parallel with the Aegean now. And covert partitioning solutions.
Which will be the next step of complete Turkification.

“Calm waters”, when they lead to silent acceptance of accomplishments, always bring huge storms.
About the talks in New York, only a few hours ago, I have nothing to say. It would be irresponsible.
But the solution must be one: fair and sustainable!
If it is not “fair” it will not be “sustainable”.
If something different is signed,
it will simply be the fuse for the next crisis.
And if we accept something like this to be signed, all of us will be hunted by the Erinyes.

We want the Republic of Cyprus indivisible and united. Without the presence of Attila!
With all the refugees in their homes!
Besides, the single state of the Republic of Cyprus joined the European Union in its entirety. With suspension of the “European acquis” in its northern part, due to occupation. As expressly provided by the European Protocol 10.
So our goal cannot be to legitimize the dichotomous achievements of the invasion. As with the Annan plan, legitimizing the achievements of the invasion, through the back door, is not a solution. It is complete submission. And submission is the ultimate limit of renouncing politics and, above all, national dignity.
So our goal is to end the occupation and apply the European “acquis” to the northern part of the island as well…
After all, let’s not forget that Europe has decided, as early as September 2005, that Turkey must recognize the Republic of Cyprus!
This should be the base!
And let everyone hear it. Why, make no mistake:
The dissolution of the Cypriot state will also bring about the dismemberment of the Aegean… And it will begin the shrinking of Greece itself.

So no more utopias and taunts against Hellenism.
It is a matter of Consciousness. But it is, now, also a matter of survival.
By saving our Cyprus, we are saving our Greece.

Today we honor the woman of Cyprus. And in her face we also honor Freedom! Which – let’s not forget – is female.
Our mothers taught it to us from the time we were born.
For us Greeks, Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom, was also a warrior – Pallas! Not even Ares himself, the God of War, dared to mess with her!
As Plato says in Cratylus, her name symbolizes both “Divine Intelligence” and invincible martial prowess.
Hence her invincible passion for the Freedom of the Greeks. A “Passion for Freedom”…
But also in recent times, in our Orthodoxy,
Panagia is the Shield of the Greeks!
The sweetest mother of all of us, but also, when necessary, the “Supreme General”, in freedom struggles.
And it is Freedom for us Greeks indeed of the feminine gender.
And our mothers, they gave birth to us to walk upright – not bent over!
Proud – not humbled.
Free – not slaves.
Decent – not compromised.

That is why by honoring women, especially the women of Cyprus, we are primarily honoring our Freedom itself.
Let us not forget this, in the difficult times we live in today.

Tonight’s award to the Cypriot woman is symbolically attributed to the person of the chosen Ms. Filippas Karsera-Christodoulidou, wife of the President of Cyprus. Which stands worthily next to him. So it is a symbolic award. The women of Cyprus are constantly in pain for their lost loved ones. But we are also constantly moved by them. Because in their eyes we read vividly the tragedy of loss. But we read in the same eyes and their pride. Because the sacrifice of their own people who were lost was a sacrifice for the country.
This award belongs to all the women of Cyprus.
As a minimal expression of our Respect, our Love and our own passion for Freedom.

Thank you very much.
