“Government’s approach to fires is centralized and clientelistic – We propose a national action plan with a 50-50 allocation of resources”
Characterizing “contradictory” the attitude of the ND regarding the amendment for the “Spartans”, he began his speech at Parliament the president of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis.
“We have not heard from the prime minister an apology for giving the money of the Greek people to a party whose real leadership is a condemned man from the Aryan ice. Not once not twice but 4 times. Give us a reason and an answer”, he said, underlining that “PASOK stood up to the murderers of the AXA from the beginning without yes or but without asterisks. So you torpedo the consensus. Why do you refuse consent on this huge political and moral issue?’

“The government’s perception of dealing with fires is centralized and clientelistic”
Moving on to the topic of of fire and her fire seasonMr. Androulakis aimed his “arrows” at the government, which “goes below the bar of the expectations of Greek society, because its perception is clientelistic and centralized”, while referring to the fiery front of Attica he said:
“In Attica a fire started in a forest area and nevertheless escaped into the urban fabric and once again created a generalized feeling of insecurity among the citizens. The fire from Barnabas went out in Chalandri. What happened? With this fire, a total of 37% of the forest areas of the whole of Attica have been burnt. It will have a huge impact on the air we breathe. What will you do to stop this downward spiral? This is the conversation that needs to be had.”
At the same time, the president of PASOK did not fail to mention the fire in Xylokastro, which was “the most destructive in Greece for the months of September and October, which shows unacceptable unpreparedness”.
Finally, he underlined that a radical change of the national plan is needed, with three findings that have not, in fact, become a compass for major changes. “The climate crisis is here. The question is whether there is a comprehensive response, in other words have we strengthened resilience? I will say no. There are no margins, postponements, mistakes”, suggesting:
“We need to end the weakening of the Forest Service, end the current allocation of resources. 70 -30 doesn’t work. PASOK proposes the institutionalization of a national action plan, to reach 50-50. Prioritization of high risk areas. Adoption of a triptych for the protection of forests, as well as institutionalization and systematic utilization of old stands. The creation of a single geoinformation system with the entire forestry and agricultural network. Utilization in the winter of the prevention of forest firefighters who are in the forest in the summer, together with the establishment of a body to monitor the restoration of the environment. Not just compensation but substantial support for the fire victims. We are ready to discuss all this in a competent cross-party committee that will bring a proposal to the Parliament.”
