The president of Freedom of Navigation, Zoe Konstantopoulou, strongly criticized the Prime Minister in the context of an update to the Parliament by Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the firefighting period, accusing him of having once again avoided giving substantial and clear answers about the government’s criminal responsibilities that led to in the huge destructive fires.

“The Prime Minister seems to have run out of apology coupons. Didn’t all of Greece burn, Mr. Mitsotakis, this year? Over 3,700,000 acres of forest have burned in your days. You refer to your actions without taking into account the citizens”, said the president of Plefsis Eleftherias.

Mrs. Konstantopoulou particularly focused on the devastating fire in the forest of Dadia, pointing out that “one million acres of forest burned, the responsibilities of the government are huge and criminal, while the prime minister who visited the area did absolutely nothing, only making electoral promises for reconstruction of Evros”.

“Your banter with communication gimmicks, however, does not go down well in the world and you will collect this.

The prime minister has nothing to say about so many acres of forests that turned into ashes, so many lives of people and animals that were lost due to the absence of the state,” he added.

Also, Mrs. Konstantopoulou spoke “about opacity in the management of community funds and direct project assignments”, noting that “our country is also controlled by the European Commission”.

“You made the country, from where we go and where it comes out, which led to the crime of Tempe to the criminal disasters of fires and floods in the way we go and what we eat,” he said.

Finally, Mrs. Konstantopoulou brought back her party’s proposals, among which are the permanentization of seasonal firefighters, the creation of a real field guard and forest guard, an increase in the Civil Protection budget both in the field of equipment and in the field of dependence and a new legislative framework for the absolute protection of burnt forests.
