ND MEP Freddy Mepleris called yesterday’s egg attack outside the Albanian parliament in Tirana, where he was a member of the EU-Albania Interparliamentary Liaison Committee, “unacceptable and staged”.

“Those who know from Albania, know very well that it is impossible for a citizen to approach a member of a foreign mission and even stay there for 10-15 minutes in order to flatter me”, he said today speaking to ANT1.

“Some journalists tried to stop him, but some others were part of the staging and signaled when I was coming to attack me,” he added.

Mr. Beleris said that the person who attacked him has carried out similar acts against other political figures.

On Edi Rama’s decision not to meet him – while he had planned to go to parliament and meet the group of MEPs he was part of – the ND MEP said:

“What he did was unacceptable from an institutional point of view. In a personal matter, it doesn’t bother me at all because as much as he values me, I value him just as much.”
