The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeiervisited today Wednesday the hospitality structure in Malakasawhere he was received by the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos.

Mr. Panagiotopoulos, together with the General Secretary of Asylum Reception, Ms. Dimitra Lygoura, and the Commander of the Facility, Mr. Charalambos Christou, gave Mr. Steinmeier a tour of the facilities, emphasizing the EURODAC identification stations and security procedures . The President of the Federal Republic of Germany was informed about the entry and exit process of the guests as well as the health services provided.

“A picture is worth a thousand words and what the President of Germany saw here was important”, said Mr. Panagiotopoulos after the end of the visit and added: “He spoke with the staff, he was informed about how this process is carried out, he saw what difficult conditions the workers work here and how complex and difficult the management of migration flows is for a country like Greece, a country that took on a great burden last year and is still taking on a great burden and under pressure. It is important that the first citizen of a major European state came and saw these up close.”
