There is no doubt that the Greek government has its eyes on the other side of the Atlantic where the ultimate “thriller” is expected to take place between Kamala Harris and his Donald Trump. There is no concern about the result, only the desire of the entire democratic world and the parties that the former American president does not cross the threshold of the White House again.

US-Greece relations have been on the “tracks” for several years and are constantly strengthening. The cooperation has depth and the country is a privileged partner. The role of Greece for the USA is important in what concerns the Eastern Mediterranean. THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis he saw Kamala Harris at the Munich Security Conference, while at the beginning of 2020 he had gone to the White House and met Donald Trump. Of pivotal importance was his speech to Congress. The channels are open with both Democrats and Republicans, as turbulent relations with Turkey and the issue of armaments require good communication with Washington.

Recently, as revealed by SKAI, Kyriakos Mitsotakis met the former Foreign Minister Mike Pompeofor which there is already a rumor that can be found in the Pentagon if Donald Trump emerges as “planetary” on today’s election. After all, he had handled many crises in the Eastern Mediterranean, leaving a good mark. The former president is a fact that he supports countries, such as Greece, that spend more than 2% of their GDP on their defense. It should be noted that in any case, whoever is elected in Greece has excellent communication and relations with members of Congress and the Senate.

The former American president is burdened by the fact that he tried to overturn the previous election result by storming the Capitol on January 6. This action has branded him “unfit” to serve in any office, yet his supporters appear undeterred. The important thing for the Greek side is, in the event that Kamala Harris is elected, to continue Joe Biden’s policy with the support of NATO while observing, however carefully, the “missteps” of Turkey. Ankara’s threats against another North Atlantic alliance ally are absolutely reprehensible. It is recalled that the current president did not lift Turkey’s exclusion from the F-35 program, which was imposed on Trump in 2019, due to Russia’s acquisition of the S-400.

As far as the relations between the European Union and the United States of America are concerned, this is the second field on which the Greek side has its eyes turned. In addition to defense, the economy and tariffs on European products (he has talked about reducing them) is a favorite topic of Donald Trump’s and cannot go unnoticed. Kamala Harris believes in multi-agency cooperation with Trump even questioning the climate crisis.

He wants the former US president to end the war in Ukraine. Russia-West relations are not going to be restored just like that. The fact that he apparently wishes to reconcile Moscow and Kiev through an unspecified “deal” is a moot point. And things in relation to Turkey are equally confused. The attitude of the neighbors towards Israel cannot be seen with a “good eye” by Donald Trump’s Washington, and here the Kurdish is also involved. Not that Tayyip Erdogan would simply prefer Kamala Harris. Politico had written that Trump’s election could cause a creative shock. Essentially to wake up the old continent by strengthening its defense and its policy towards China. There is also the different opinion that it is not time for the world to take another “risk” with two regional conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza already raising the global “thermometer” vertically. Therefore, Kamala Harris is by far the safest choice “for anyone interested” on the planet.
