Costas Karamanlis is nominated for President of the Republic by Antonis Samaras in an interview he gave to “Vima tis Sunday”.

As the former prime minister and former president of the ND stated in a question about the next PtD: “I consider him Costas Karamanlis the best choice”.

At the same time, Mr. Samaras asks for her resignation of Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis saying that “the permanent ‘appeasement’ of the Turkish challenges is not a centrist policy. In this case, e.g., those who declare that in the name of ‘friendship and tranquility’ with Turkey, ‘let them be labeled underdogs’ must be ‘sent home’ (the Prime Minister)! How did this come about? Why should someone who follows the fixed national line be described as a discounter? Such things are never said!”

The above reference refers to a statement by Giorgos Gerapetritis, in October to SKAI 100.3, who had said: “If I am to leave a great legacy for my country for future generations, let it be a neighborhood that will be calm, a Greece of self-confidence, stability and pride, let me also be characterized as a discounter”.

What is the response of Kostas Karamanlis’ side?

Commenting on Samaras’ proposal to nominate the former prime minister for the Presidency of the Republic, sources close to Kostas Karamanlis state that “there was no pre-consultation” between the two political men.
