Stefanis Kasselakis opposed a new term for her Katerina Sakellaropoulou in the Presidency of the Republic, he referred to his frosty relations with Alexis Tsipras, while he seemed to share the positions of Antonis Samaras on Greek-Turkish affairs.
“No” to a second term
Specifically, he accused the President of the Republic that her stance on the wiretapping issue and the Tempe accident was not sufficient. When asked by the Prime Time show if he has any person to recommend for the position, he refused to be appointed and expressed his wish to be a progressive president.
SYRIZA and Alexis Tsipras
As for Alexis Tsipras, Stefanos Kasselakis insisted on the criticism stating that they have not spoken since the previous conference. As he characteristically stated: “It changed (the mood) in the Congress that called for my resignation. Al. Tsipras has chosen to remain in SYRIZA, legitimizing the proceedings. We no longer belong to the same political space. I thank him for giving me the opportunity.”
The former president of SYRIZA posed a clear dilemma to those MPs of the party who are wavering about whether to become independent, saying that everyone has to decide whether what is happening in the party expresses him, while he launched a new attack on Koumoundourou and the newly elected president of the party, Sokratis Famellos, accusing him of not being able to inspire.
He even said characteristically: “He sat for hours and waited for the quorum of the Central Committee to exclude me. I hope he feels proud of his choice.”
“Patriotic character” of the Kasselakis movement
To the question of whether he agrees with what he said Antonis Samaras regarding the management of the Greek-Turkish people by the government, Stefanos Kasselakis’ answer was affirmative. “I agree with this criticism. There are indications that discussions are taking place behind closed doors. We have to be clear on nationalities. In the declaration of the democracy movement we have a patriotic character. There is not going to be any joint exploitation in the Aegean”.
Speaking to Prime Time, the head of the Democracy Movement ruled out any possibility of cooperation with both ND and SYRIZA, setting the goal of his movement becoming a governing force.
