The phenomena of intra-party conflict and the focus on issues that do not serve society were the main reason for its independence.
Fthiotida MP Yiannis Sarakiotis announced his decision to become independent from SYRIZA on Wednesday night.
Speaking to the “ENA” television station, he said that his decision is final and irrevocable, noting that he will submit the relevant letter to the president of the Parliament in the morning.
In fact, he noted that his intention is to keep his seat.
“Tomorrow I will declare to the Speaker of the Parliament that I am becoming independent, it was a very difficult decision. I cannot serve what I served after what happened at the party congress,” he said.
He added that the phenomena of intra-party conflict and the focus on issues that do not serve society were the main reason for his independence.
He announced that he will remain an independent MP, with no intention of joining another parliamentary group.
However, he did not rule out the possibility of rejoining a party in the future, provided that he can express himself freely and with respect to its principles.
It is noted that with the departure of Sarakiotis, the SYRIZA parliamentary group will now be left with 28 MPs, three less than PASOK-KINAL, which with 31, now constitutes the Official Opposition.
