In SYRIZA, mobility remains high. In addition to those who stay, there are a few who are still wavering about what to do, as well as several who are “reforming.”
Sokratis Famellos over the weekend, but also on Monday, was looking to “lock” the new roles and build the team that will take the party forward again. A particularly difficult task. The only comforting element that exists at the moment for the former official opposition is that in all the latest opinion polls, SYRIZA achieves a “double score” in relation to the Democracy Movement of Stefanos Kasselakis.
In the last few days there was information that for the position of press representative the new president was looking for a political executive, while a journalist was not out of the question. Sokratis Famellos found the combination of both in the person of Giorgos Karameros, who has a low profile like himself. Until yesterday at noon, Christos Giannoulis was the dominant candidate to take over the specific position, but in the end it was deemed more critical for the Thessaloniki MP and journalist to offer his services from the position of parliamentary representative that he himself desired. This role will, unexpectedly, also be played by Nikos Pappas, returning to his old duties after the three-month hiatus from the presidency of K.O. Nothing has been announced yet, as the Political Secretariat will meet first this afternoon. The formation of the communication staff, in which the director of the press office Christos Kympizis will also participate, will be completed in the next period.
Thanasis Theocharopoulos will not return to the role he had in the period 2019-2023, as director of the parliamentary group, but if everything goes according to the existing plan, he will “move” to the seventh floor of Koumoundourou to take over as director of Sokratis’ office Famous. Giorgos Bakis, who currently has this role, will be in the Parliament to take over the coordination of “27”. Tomorrow the parliamentary group will meet to approve the positions of secretary and director. Sokratis Famellos is doing exactly what Stefanos Kasselakis didn’t do last year, proceeding to caricatures and creating fronts with the “good morning” of assuming his duties.
There is no clear answer to the question of what Pavlos Polakis will do. Yesterday he met again with Sokratis Famellos and well-informed sources reported that the appointment went well. Will he settle for his old role as head of Transparency? The percentage he got in the elections has informally given him the title of “number two” of the party, so everyone is waiting for what he will choose. Among others, Dionysis Kalamatianos, Olga Gerovasilis and Christos Spirtzis passed through the president’s office yesterday. There is one signal that Mr. Famellos wants to send: unity. He wishes to give roles to people who had not supported him and in the second year other executives will be used. For some, after the assignments and vacancies have been filled, a general “lift” should follow, which must necessarily include a “freshening” of new faces.
All this is happening while Stefanos Kasselakis is still trying to build his parliamentary group. So far he can count on Theodora Tzakris, Alexandros Avlonitis, Rallia Christidou, Iota Poulos and Kyriaki Malamas. They are already following a common parliamentary pace. Evangelos Apostolakis could be the one outside the parliament, while Yiannis Sarakiotis does not open his papers. Everything shows that in order to complete the coveted ten, Mr. Kasselakis will have to look to see if he can attract MPs outside SYRIZA from the “tank” of independents.
