“There are 388 cameras of the Attica Region, the tender for which is over and they have already been signed – These will be the first to enter”
On his TV and in “Today» with them Dimitris Oikonomou and Akis Pavlopoulos the Minister of Digital Governance was invited Dimitris Papastergiouwhere he mentioned the plan for the new “smart” cameras on the roads.
“We did the obvious by taking care of road safety” as the minister initially noted, pointing out that the main role of these cameras is to cover the gap that exists, as a result of which 2 people are killed a day on the road, not of the National Roads, but of the cities. “There are 388 cameras of the Attica Region, the tender for which has ended and they have already been signed. These will be the first to enter, at junctions that the Greek Police and Traffic have indicated are dangerous, because accidents and accidents happen. So these will start coming in from the summer onwards, so we’ll use those first. We already have 17 cameras on Attiki Odos which are already working with the old system, along with another 12”.
“So,” continued Mr. Papastergiou, “we are using the competition that the Region ran and we are starting to put another 1,000 cameras, where they will be installed by the summer. We will do everything to respect the issue of personal data, but it is not personal data when it only shows my face without showing if there is a person next to me, when I am speeding or running a red light.”
He also added that if there are no problems with the tender procedures, the goal is to have the platform ready in the summer of 2025. “Now the call will go directly to the mobile phone, to the citizen’s inbox, with the objection process being digital without delays.”
