“The islands will be transformed into units of power and will prevent any thought of overthrowing the regime in the Aegean,” noted the Minister of Defense.
“Greece, in order to defend its sovereignty and its sovereign rights, will proceed with the creation of a missile defense wall in the Aegean” said the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias speaking at the Naval Cadet School.

Speaking at the same event, general commander, vice admiral Eleftherios – Dimitrios Kataras stated: “We are promoting the updating and implementation of targeted equipment programs that will serve and harmonize with the new structure of the Navy. As an example, I mention the Belharra frigates program, where actions are underway for the supply of a 4th frigate, the Romeo-type helicopters, the Island-type submarines, the modernization programs of the MEKO frigates, submarines and fast attack patrols (RPPs), the renewal of the potential of the Fleet’s guided missiles and torpedoes, while the country’s participation in the program of of Constellation frigates as well as the implementation of innovative programs of high operational value”.
Iron Dome
A few days ago, Greek officials had declared that the Greece is in talks with the Israel for the development of an anti-aircraft system worth 2 billion euros, in the context of a wider effort to modernize the country’s armed forces.
The defense system will mimic the Iron Dome Israel’s and other systems that intercept short- and long-range missiles fired during strikes by its neighbors amid conflicts in Gaza with Hamas and Lebanon with Hezbollah.
“The plan is to create a multi-layered anti-aircraft and anti-drone system” a source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters after a closed-door briefing with Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.
“We are in discussions with Israel”the same source noted.
“Frour desire is for a rapid transition of our armed forces into the 21st century” Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has stated.
