Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is in Lebanon today, Monday, on the first visit of a European prime minister to the country after the cease-fire agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel and the developments in Syria.
The Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, warmly welcomed the Greek Prime Minister in the morning at the Beirut airport.
“It gives me great pleasure to be here to show our strong commitment to your country. You know the strong ties between Lebanon and Greece, I don’t need to repeat them, they are well known. The fact that I am the first foreign leader to visit Lebanon after the ceasefire and the developments in Syria means a lot to me. We have a lot to talk about” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“Exactly. I believe that, in a way, we are neighbors. Cyprus and Greece are so close to us and we are always looking for the best relationship” replied Najib Mikati for his part.
At this time, Mr. Mitsotakis meets with the Prime Minister of Lebanon at the Grand Serail Palace and joint statements by the two leaders will follow.
Earlier in the morning the prime minister met with the Patriarch of Antioch John I, in the presence of the Metropolitan Elias of Beirut.
