Maria Karystianou, president of the Association of Families of Tempi Victims “Tempi 2023”, spoke in the Parliament about the connection of the train accident in Tempi with violations of the rules of safety, meritocracy and good administration as well as the transport of illegal cargo.
During her deposition at the meeting of the Parliament’s Production and Trade committee, where the bill for the restructuring of the railway sector is being discussed, Ms. Karystianou spoke of an attempted cover-up, stressing: “While we are collecting data, we are observing unprecedented cover-up procedures by the government which responsible for the crime. The requests for the establishment of a pre-investigation committee were voted down. The inquiry committee was closed violently and without investigating the case. The conclusion was voted only by the ND MPs, some of whom later became Ministers since the committee was Gourlidic. The attempt to cover it up by altering the scene of the crime was organized.”
“With personal interventions, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice are putting pressure on the investigator to finish his work quickly,” she added, pointing out that there is a gross disregard for human life. “We do not legitimize any legislative initiative without removing the immunity of the prime minister and ministers so that the responsibilities are assigned. The case must be heard by a special court,” he said.
