Message zero tolerance to any company – electricity provider that retains and does not return to the municipality money which it has received from its consumers for municipal fees, sent the mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannisspeaking at today’s meeting of the Municipal Council of the capital.

Mr. Bakoyannis underlined that the Municipality of Athens, as it did immediately and decisively in the complaints made to it for a specific company, will do so “again without hesitation”. Referring to the effects of energy crisis, stressed that dealing with it requires “seriousness and responsibility” and said the municipality would fully cover the relevant costs of the schools. THE mayor of Athens assured that the municipality will not limit the services it offers due to the crisis. His municipal authority said “it has two principles: It does not pass on any increase to the citizens and it is not going to cut its vital services with its alibi energy crisis». He pointed out that in the past two years, despite the pandemic and the financial constraints, the Municipality of Athens “managed to upgrade its credit, to rebuild its infrastructure and to expand the services it offers to its residents. “We must continue to pursue this strategy,” he said.

In his intervention, Mr. Bakoyannis also referred to the emergency General Assembly of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE) next Friday, emphasizing the contribution of the Local Government both in the period of the economic crisis and in the pandemic but also in the current energy crisis. The Local Government stressed that despite the loss of revenue it had covered a number of emergencies. “This means that the government has to make decisions. “I want to believe that we will soon see the necessary support, according to the assurances we have received.”
