Another episode broke out against the former mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis and the current mayor, Harry Doukaswith the background of the Double Renovation and the field facilities of Erasitechnis Panathinaikos. In particular, the municipal faction “Athens High” of Kostas Bakoyannis issued a statement according to which it accuses the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, of concealing for eight months a letter from the banks, which officially and in writing reported the budget of the project, which amounts to 24 million euro.

The announcement in detail:

We all want the Double Regeneration to happen. It is a project that should unite us and that Athens absolutely needs.

Today, at the Municipal Council, our faction requested an update on the progress of the facilities of the Professional Artist Panathinaikos. We remind you that without an Amateur, there is no Double Regeneration.

We were surprised to learn that as of April 2024, the banks have officially and in writing informed the mayor that the project budget is 24 million euros plus VAT.

In other words, at the same time that the mayor was exhausting himself in making toxic attacks against our faction, proclaiming that following his own actions and almost miraculously resurrecting the project, he was lying, as he knew that there was a significant financial gap, which he was hiding. Even when he was introduced to the Amateur and answered thorough questions from members, even then he did not refer to the letter and instead repeated that everything is fine.

Even today, he refuses to submit to the Municipal Council and to the public – as required – the official correspondence and once again resorts to the well-known argument that “even for the weather, Bakoyannis is to blame” when, as everyone knows, the final budget was not known to our municipal authority.

Even worse when asked about what he has been doing since April until now, he gives no answer and when asked what he is doing now or what he will do, the answer is “talking” and “discussing”.

We call on the mayor to leave the petty political games that are of no interest to anyone and rise to the occasion. For a whole year he likes only communication and has abandoned the essence.

We are here to support any serious effort and will continue to push, with all our might, to make the Double Regeneration a reality.
