The Deputy Minister of Health notes that one of the biggest reforms is the timely issuance of hospital budgets

He notes that one of the biggest reforms is the timely issuance of hospital budgets. Hospitals received the approval of budgets on January 10, 2024 and for the first year, no additional funding was requested. To date this has not been possible in any year. As for 2025, Mr. Themistocleous mentions that hospital budgets have already been drawn up on the basis of a long-term plan. The use of DRG’s to calculate the cost of all hospitals belongs to the same category. “2025 will be the year that, after many years of discussions, we will implement DRGs, where hospitals will be financed according to the work produced, which proves that we are implementing practices that for years had been delayed in coming to the country”, the Deputy Minister of Health emphasizes .
Other major reform cuts made in 2024 concern the afternoon surgeriesthe establishment of the right of private practice for NHS doctors, organizational changes, renovation of hospitals and Health Centers, supply of modern medical equipment, interventions to reduce waiting time in the emergency room.
Mr. Themistokleous emphasizes that “the results of all these actions have already begun to pay off and improve the provision of health services by the NHS”. He analyzes the 2025 goals and the changes to come, stressing that “there is an overall plan for the transformation and modernization of the NHS.
