There is concern in the Israeli army about the effectiveness of the state-of-the-art Arrow anti-ballistic air defense system, since for the second time in just twenty-four hours it failed to repel missile attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

the Israeli radars are “set up”.

Today, shortly before 4 am local time (and Greek time), a Houthi missile hit a residential area in the city of Jaffa, a coastal suburb of Tel Aviv. Miraculously, no casualties were reported, even though the Houthi missile landed in an open area between a number of apartment complexes. Due to the late hour, most residents of the area did not have time to take shelter in shelters, as a result of which more than twenty citizens were injured by broken windows, a fire broke out and a crater was created at the site of the explosion.

In the early hours of last Thursday, once again the Israeli radars failed to detect yet another rocket of the Yemeni rebels, which managed to destroy a school building in the suburb of Ramat Efal, northeast of the center of Tel Aviv, causing significant material damage. On the other hand, the second missile launched by the Houthis the same night was successfully shot down off the Mediterranean coast of Tel Aviv. An official explanation for the Arrow system’s malfunction has yet to be announced, raising concerns among residents of central Israel, which is among the country’s most densely populated.

On the other hand, however, the Israeli authorities deny the claim of the Houthis that – both during last night’s attack and today’s early morning – they allegedly hit military targets in the wider area of Tel Aviv, as they typically report.

The US, Britain and Israel are coordinating against the Houthis

As had already been leaked since the beginning of last week, and while a three-day working visit of Lt. Gen. Michael Kerila, the commander of the US forces stationed in the region (CENTCOM), was underway, the Israeli air force seems to be already focusing on combating the arsenal and operational capabilities of the Houthis.

It is no coincidence that, immediately after the extensive American bombing of various targets of the Yemeni rebels, Israel took the baton, when the day before yesterday (19/12) it struck three ports used by the Houthis on the coast of the southern Red Sea, their headquarters organization in the capital Sana’a and training camps and arms depots in various provinces of the country.

In fact, as the Israeli army warned in today’s announcement, other Houthi infrastructures are on the way in the near future. On the other hand, there are increasing reports that leading figures of the Yemeni rebels, who are armed by Iran, have already fled the country in different directions, expecting more waves of Israeli, American and British coordinated bombings against their bases and arsenal.
