Her sincere condolences on his passing Kostas Simitis, expresses to his family, the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Ms. Sakellaropoulou states in her message:

“THE Kostas Simitis was one of the most important and multifaceted political figures of our recent history. His presence in the country’s public life contributed decisively to the formation and continuity of another political consciousness and culture in the Post-colonial period, with an emphasis on method, rationality and commitment to the goal. With a fixed, main reference to European social democracy and the current of modernization, he envisioned, as Prime Minister, a Greece strong and equal in Europe.

The entry of the country into the Eurozone and the integration of Cyprus into Europe have been recorded as top moments for our national interests. The democratic ethos, combativeness and low-key devotion to the good of our State accompanied Kostas Simitis throughout his life, in the resistance to the dictatorship, in his academic course, in his great political journey.

I say goodbye to him with sadness and respect and express my deepest condolences to his wife Daphne, his daughters and his relatives.”
